London underground abrupt 35% fare increase

It now costs £12 for a zone 1-6 tube off-peak one-day travel card although the identical ticket cost £8-90 less than a month ago. The photograph shows a ticket at the price late last year. That represents an abrupt increase of 35%.
I discovered the increase earlier this week at Kings Cross. Less than a month earlier, in late December 2014, I had bought the same ticket for £8-90, like the one shown in the photograph.
